Privacy policy
How the Australian Islamic Network collects, uses and protects your personal information.
1. About this policy
Australian Islamic Network (ABN 71 390 881 072) ("AIN", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). It applies to this website, our events and programs (including those run through ICON, our outreach network), and any communication you have with us.
2. What we collect
We only collect information that is reasonably necessary for our activities. This may include:
- your name, email address, phone number and suburb or postcode;
- details you provide when you contact us, register for an event, volunteer or subscribe to updates;
- donation details such as the amount, frequency and billing name (card details are handled by our payment providers, see section 5);
- information about how you use our website (see section 8).
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as religious beliefs or health information) unless you choose to give it to us and it is needed for a program, for example dietary or accessibility requirements for an event. Where we do, we collect it only with your consent.
3. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you fill in a form on this website, register for or attend an event, make a donation, email or call us, or interact with us on social media. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before giving us your details.
4. How we use it
- to respond to your enquiries and provide the services you request;
- to organise events, programs and volunteer activities;
- to process donations and send receipts;
- to send you news and event updates where you have agreed to receive them (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- to improve our website, programs and communications;
- to meet our legal and reporting obligations.
We will never sell or rent your personal information.
5. Donations & payments
Online donations are processed securely by our website platform (Squarespace) and its payment partners, such as Stripe and PayPal. Your full card details are handled by those providers and are not stored by AIN. We keep a record of your donation (name, email, amount and date) for receipting, accounting and legal purposes.
6. Sharing & disclosure
We may share your information with trusted service providers who help us operate, such as website hosting, payment processing, email delivery and event registration tools. We may also share it with partner masajid or organisations co-hosting an event you have registered for. Otherwise, we only disclose personal information with your consent or where required or permitted by law.
7. Overseas storage
Some of our service providers (including Squarespace, Stripe and PayPal) may store data on servers outside Australia, for example in the United States or the European Union. We take reasonable steps to make sure these providers protect your information to a standard consistent with the APPs.
8. Cookies & analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep it working properly and to understand how visitors use it (for example, which pages are most popular). This information is collected in aggregate and does not identify you personally. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work as intended.
9. Photos at events
We sometimes take photos or video at our events to share our work on this website and our social media. We will let attendees know when photography is taking place. If you would prefer not to be photographed, or would like an image of you removed, please tell a team member or contact us and we will act promptly.
10. Security & retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including using secure platforms and limiting access to people who need it. We keep information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes above or as required by law, after which it is securely deleted or de-identified.
11. Access & correction
You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you at any time by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days.
12. Contact & complaints
If you have a question or concern about privacy, please contact us:
